Peach tea is the second home-bred tomato variety we are releasing, and its super exciting! Our priority, ever since we began our plant breeding project, was to create the most delicious varieties, that look unique and are super productive. Today, plant breeding has gotten a bad reputation for being a fully for-profit undertaking, where companies create very standard looking varieties of crops, with a 2% higher yield but a 50% loss of flavor and nutrition. However, when done with the right intentions (like our ancestors did) it can create timeless classics (think of all the amazing heirloom tomatoes) that fill hearts as much as they do stomachs! Red eye cherry tomato was already a widely loved variety, due to its extremely sweet taste, resistance to pest and disease, and high yield. Our second tomato breeding project wanted to continue on the same lines, but this time we decided to use the renowned, garden peach, heirloom tomato as a parent variety due to its rich, umami flavor. We crossed garden peach with red-eye and developed a brand new cherry tomato variety with a delicious sweet taste, and a rich umami flavor as well. Its super high yielding, and over the years has become almost a weed in our system due to its super-resilient nature and its ability to produce soo many fruit (which birds love as much as humans do!). Its flavor is bound to win hearts in any market, and in our experience, it makes the tastiest tomato sauce ever.
