Orange watermelon, as the name suggests, is a unique (but completely natural) variety of watermelon with Orange colored flesh inside. Contrary to popular belief, watermelons were not always red inside, but the wild ancestor was actually white (and it was grown for the nutritious seeds, not the fruit), nut over time, humans began selecting the plants that made sweeter and colorful fruits, which lead to the creation of the modern watermelon. Heirloom watermelons came in many colors including white, yellow, orange and red; however, with time red became the most popular color.
