Maize Morado is a Native American heirloom variety of corn with a beautiful deep purple/ black color. The color of the corn is due to anthocyanins, a type of antioxidant with potent health benefits. The tortillas, porridges and other foods made using this corn inherit the same purple color as the corn, making them visually stunning. This variety of corn is primarily recognized for its use in the traditional native american drink called chicha morado. Chicha morado is a refreshing summer drink made by boiling the entire cob of the corn, with pinneapples, apples and other fruits and herbs.  The result is a stunning deep purple drink which is as healthy as it is tasty.
