A perennial garlic substitute with a bunching growth habit. Its leaves, bulbs and flowers are edible and useful as a garlic substitute. Dried leaves can be added to seasoning mixes and masalas. The showy, white flowers are born in flushes year round and are a favorite of bees and other pollinators. Harvest the leaves to an inch of the soil surface at regular intervals to encourage new flushes of growth. Compounds found in society garlic can help fight cancer and heart disease when consumed. It has many of the same antibiotic propertis as regular garlic.
Note: Should be planted immediately after receiving the bulbs as they have tiny bulbs and this have a low shelf life outside soil! Please keep the location/ container ready for planting before they reach to get them planted right away! To plant simply plant the bulb 1-3 centimeters into the soil, and keep moist but do not overwater them. Once the plants start growing regularly feed them with compost/ seaweed solution/ other organic fertilizers for profuse and healthy growth.
History: Garlic chives are native to Northern China and Mongolia and have a history of use going back 4000 years. It is especially prevalent in traditional Chinese, Japanese and korean cuisines, being widely used in stir fries, pickles and as a garlic substitute. Today, Garlic chives have naturalized in many parts of the world, like Europe and the Americas.
