Egyptian walking onion
3 bulbs per pack
Rs.200/- per pack
The now infamous egyptian walking onion, or tree onion, is a cross between the common onion and welsh bunching onion. Unlike common onions, these onions are perennial and once planted will supply an abundance of onion bulbs and leaves for the rest of their lives. Tree onions get their name from their inflorescence, which strangely enough, lacks any flowers but forms a cluster of bulbils (small onion bulbs) on long stalks. These bulbs eventually fall to the gound and establish into new plants, which also lends the name "walking onion" to this variety.
Egyptian onions are a perfect addition to gardens and farm systems. Regular splitting of bulb colonies and regular harvest of leaves incourage greater division of bulbs. Can perpetually supply delicious, tender onion greens and bulbs once sufficiently established. Has a delicious onion taste that tastes great raw or cooked. The scent of the plant repels insets and deer. Tolerant of very poor, sandy soils; tolerates drought and frost conditions; no pest problems.
