Edible canna (Canna edulis, aka. queensland arrowroot)
1 Tuber for planting
Rs.200/- per tuber
Canna edulis is a plant that had been on our wishlist for many, many years but we never could find it! It's considered one of the most productive and useful plants in the tropics, especially in a permaculture context. They are fast-growing, pest-resistant, and delicious. The swollen underground shoots are consumed as a potato substitute, and are super creamy, sweet, and satiating. The above-ground leafy growth is extremely ornamental, and grows super quickly, allowing it to work as a good source of biomass for mulching and composting. They are both flood and drought tolerant, and can easily be divided once established. Because of their short swollen shoots, they do not spread very far (like regular canna) and are easy to contain in small areas. They occasionally produce dainty, and dazzling red flowers on tall flower spikes.
