History: Edamame soybean has been prevalent in Chinese and Japanese cultures for many centuries. Unlike common soybean, which is dried before harvest and used as a bean, edamame is harvested in the immature, green stage. Edamame soybean is boiled, steamed or blanched and then shelled before eating. Japanese restaurants across the world are partially responsible for making this variety of soybean famous. Edamame soybean requires little in terms of additional flavoring due to its own rich, sweet taste.
