Society Garlic, as the name suggests, is a relative of common garlic (Allium sativum) and a member of the Onion family (Amaryllidaceae). Society Garlic gets its name because consumption of its leaves is not followed by the body odor commonly associated with regular garlic. This was considered more “polite” by western societies, who thus named this plant the society garlic.
