Hopi Dye sunflower is an ancient heirloom variety of sunflower, traditionally grown by the Hopi Tribe of Native Americans. It is famous for its medium-large size flower heads, numerous secondary flowers and the intense purple dye produced from its seed costs.
History: The Hopi tribe were traditionally based in the desert environments of Arizona, and like many native american societies, they have a rich legacy of understanding and working in conjunction with their environment. Over several centuries they have perfected the art of breeding and conserving their unique heirloom varieties. Hopi varieties of crops are renowned for their excellent resistance to drought conditions, heat, pests and poor soils.
